10 Ways to Make Cleaning Easier

My cleaning journey began years ago when I started a cleaning business. At the beginning, I had to do all the cleaning myself, so I had to learn how to make the job easier and faster on my own. Over the years I’ve picked up a few tricks and tricks that will really help with your overall cleaning strategy. So, here are 10 ways to make cleaning easier for you and your family!

Don’t forget to check out Maker’s Clean line of premium products. From microfiber cloths to the Maker’s Mop, they have a great line of high-quality products that will help you take your cleaning game to the next level!

Start Small & Plan Ahead

It’s easy to get overwhelmed when you’re tackling any cleaning job, big or small. That’s why you always want to start small when you begin to clean. It’s best to chunk things down into easier-to-tackle tasks so that you can approach them with confidence and complete them in a reasonable amount of time. Another great strategy is to really learn the products, tools, and techniques of that specific job before you take a crack at it. That way you can be knowledgeable, efficient, and effective all in the first go!

DIY Cleaners

One of the problems I often ran into when I began my cleaning business, was thinking I needed a hundred different cleaning products. But this is all wrong! I’ve learned over the years that the majority of daily cleaning that happens around the home can really just be tackled with an all-purpose cleaner, glass cleaner, and a very simple degreaser.

Oftentimes, you can even make your own solutions and save yourself a ton of money. This way you’ll have complete control over what ingredients are in your products and can minimize the number of chemicals you use around the house.

We love DIY cleaning products at Clean My Space and have dedicated a lot of time and effort to building a fantastic E-Book 50 DIY Recipes, full of homemade solutions for all your cleaning needs!

Top to Bottom, Left to Right

Whenever you learn a new sport or hobby, there’s always the idea of a beginning position or basic foundations. Well, in cleaning, while it’s not a sport or hobby, at least not for me, there is also this notion of a basic foundation.

Anytime you tackle a room, you always want to be cleaning from top to bottom and working your way from left to right. This helps because it gives you a very specific direction and technique that you can use each and every time. You will always know where to work and how to work, rather than being scattered, going from one thing to the next randomly. Consistency is key, especially when it comes to cleaning!

Take Your Time

Instead of rushing through a job and taking a patchwork approach to it, I prefer to first take a few minutes and figure out exactly what I need to do. I like to get my products, tools, and techniques in order before I even think about starting to clean. This might take a little longer at first but over time it becomes a seamless process that is more efficient and effective.

Focus on MIA’s

No matter how much or how little experience you have in cleaning, there will always be a time when you look at a job and feel overwhelmed. It’s only natural. This is where the concept of MIA’s or Most Important Areas comes into play. Not everything in every room needs to be cleaned all at the time and all at once.

Try and make sure that you’re focusing on the areas that you see and use most in any given space. For example, when I clean my daughter’s room, I am not getting down and wiping the baseboards every day. Instead, I focus on tidying, cleaning her desk, cleaning the bed, and focusing on the areas that are used most frequently. Now, of course, I get to the other stuff every now and then, but if you prioritize the MIA’s you’ll be well on your way to a cleaner house!

Set a Timer

When we have to do something that we really don’t want to do it’s easy to get distracted and pulled off track. This is why, when cleaning, set yourself a timer and tune out your distractions. This will help you get the job done faster and will leave you with better cleaning results in the end!

Quality Products

A huge pet peeve of mine is when I see people getting all excited about inexpensive, crappy cleaning tools. Now, don’t get me wrong, I am always trying to save where I can, but often times you end up having to supplement the poor performance of the product with your own time and effort. The point is, save yourself the hassle, spend the money, get good quality tools, and let the tools do the work for you. Make your life easier and let the products and tools do the sweating!

Vacuum Last

A professional and proficient cleaner is an absolute savage when it comes to cleaning surfaces. By this, I mean that they throw everything on the floor. Now, when I first learned about this, I thought it was counterintuitive but I came to realize, over time, that it really makes sense and is the most efficient way of working. Clean everything on the surfaces first then at the very end you sweep and vacuum. It’s an extremely satisfying experience and it’ll also cut you cleaning time in half! Boom! Now you’re cleaning like a pro.

Schedule It

I’ve always been a big believer that what gets scheduled gets done. If you look at my calendar you would see a million random things blocked in there. That’s how I live my life and that’s how I clean. If you’re someone who struggles with finding the time to get things done, schedule it all in blocks. Vacuuming, cleaning the bathroom, doing laundry, whatever it is, schedule it in!

There it is! Just a few simple ideas to add to your cleaning routine to make your life easier and your cleaning experience better. If you’re looking to really up your cleaning game then check out our E-Book Bundle full of tips and tricks that will get you cleaning like a pro!
