Fret not; buckling down and cleaning your bedroom does not have to be an insurmountable task. In today’s blog, we will discuss a methodical, three wave bedroom cleaning process to help transform your room back to the tranquil space you would like it to be.

What you’ll need

  • Recycling bin
  • A bin for other stuff
  • A tray for the kitchen
  • A garbage bag
  • A high dusting tool
  • Microfiber cloths
  • All-purpose cleaner and glass cleaner
  • Vacuum

Wave 1: Decluttering

The first step is decluttering. Personally, I like to start at the 12 o’clock point in my room and work clockwise, picking up anything that is not where it belongs. Making your bed is also part of this wave – be sure to spend a few minutes doing this as there is nothing like getting into a nicely made bed at the end of a long day!

Once the bed is made, you can throw clean laundry on your bed before folding it and putting it away. Put dirty laundry in your dirty laundry pile or hamper.

Wave 2: Cleaning

Next comes the actually cleaning part of the process. Start with the high duster and work your way around the room removing cobwebs and dust in ceiling corners. Then work your way from top to bottom cleaning picture frames, furniture, lamps, etc. with all-purpose cleaner and a microfiber cloth.

Don’t be tempted to get lazy cleaning around items on surfaces either – remove them, clean the surface and then put them back in their place!

Work in a consistent clockwise manner to avoid missing anything. For mirrors, use glass cleaner and micro cloth and clean in an S pattern.

While baseboards do not need to be cleaned every time, you should give them a quick wipe if you notice that they are getting a little dirty. This is also a good opportunity to straighten everything up and make it look nice and neat.

Finally, take out bins and other items that are on the floor and prepare for Wave 3 – Vacuuming.

Wave 3: Vacuuming

Vacuum your room going back and forth in different chunks of the room making a series of ‘W’ strokes. This will help everything look nice and neat. Be sure to finish by vacuuming your way out of the room.
