My Easy Daily Bathroom Cleaning Routine!

We get ready in the bathroom each morning, brush up and wash up, do our little routines, and then repeat that all over again the next day. We want to walk out feeling fresh and clean, not grimy and gross, so if your bathroom doesn’t make you smile, let’s figure out how to change that! In less than 5 minutes per day, you can get your bathroom looking and feeling beautiful until a bigger cleaning takes place.  Instead of racing out of the bathroom the second you finish up, add these simple steps in and enjoy the fruits of your labor. I feel like a million bucks when I wake up to a clean bathroom every day—it really makes a difference!

6 Simple Things To Do Every Day

  1. Squeegee your shower walls and tub after each use. A quick squeegee after each shower will help prevent soap scum and mildew from forming. You can also use a daily shower spray along with the squeegee.
  2. Keep an all-purpose cleaner and a microfiber cloth under your sink. This way you can quickly and easily wipe down your counter, sink and spot clean your mirror each night before bed. If you want to be extra fancy, keep a flat-weave microfiber cloth for the glass, and an extra plush cloth to polish up chrome fixtures, but if that’s too much a general purpose microfiber cloth will do.
  3. Sprinkle a couple of teaspoons of baking soda in the toilet overnight, and flush it in the morning. This helps deodorize the toilet and keep it cleaner. If you notice a ring building up, give the toilet bowl a quick 10 second scrub in the morning and flush.
  4. Keep your oral care and face care products and hand soap on your counter only, everything else needs storage so it doesn’t clutter up your counter. Line up each item parallel or perpendicular after each use and replace any other cosmetics or toiletry items where they belong. Leave nothing else out!
  5. Do a cursory tidy up by straitening up or replacing towels and putting any clothing away.
  6. Finish up by closing your shower curtain and ensuring you have toilet paper (yes, do this!).

This should take you less than 5 minutes each day! I know, these tips may seem simple, but actually implementing them into your daily routine will keep your bathroom looking gorgeous and ready for you to use each day.

Now, if you share a bathroom, you can either take this on yourself (because it’s all about how YOU feel in the end, not the other person), or you can work on this routine with the person or people you share it with, hoping that everyone can stick to the standards set out. If it helps, take a moment, and do a dry run. Establish where everything is going to go and what the routine looks like. Don’t overthink it, just do it!

5 Bonus Tips!

If you want to take that next step to a cleaner bathroom here are a few of my favorite tips.

  1. Leave a squeegee in your shower stall for easy use.
  2. After a shower, leave the door of the bathroom open and turn on the fan or open a window. This helps reduce moisture in the air and keeps the bathroom mildew-free.
  3. Locate a ‘home’ for each item in your bathroom, from cotton swabs to creams and hair styling products—this way you’ll know exactly where everything goes.
  4. Consider decluttering or getting rid of old products that are just taking up space!
  5. Have fun with it! You should enjoy the space so think about adding some greenery, or a DIY reed diffuser to make the space smell great!

  1. I use all of these tips and they do work. Some days I just spray the shower and others I actually squeegee. I keep a container of Lysol wipes handy in the bathroom so anyone can use them at any time. I also keep a spare roll of TP handy and in sight! I use a hand vac on the floor some days just in case I get company. It doesn’t take long to do all this…and a clean countertop, mirror and a toilet thats disinfected on a regular basis works well for me…..I feel spoiled and special! It’s all about me!

  2. What do you suggest to cut through hair spray residue??? I’ve tried the allpurpose cleaner with dish soap, and cleaning with vinegar, and neither will cut through the hair spray my teenage daughter and I leave on our bathroom vanity from spraying hairspray!! Only commercial cleaners have worked, and I’d like to try a DIY cleaner. Any suggestions??

    • Try a 50/50 solution of rubbing alcohol and water. Plus, you’ll disinfect your countertop. It cleans mirrors well, too. If you don’t care for the alcohol smell, add several drops of your favorite essential oil.

    • I use Melissa’s recipe for All-Purpose Cleaner on that hairspray. Give it a little dwell time and use it daily with a microfiber cloth. It really does work like a charm! 1-1/2 C. water, 1/2 C rubbing alcohol, 1 t. dish soap plus EO’s (I love 6 d. Tea Tree, 15 d. Peppermint, 20 d. Lavender, 5 d. Vanilla). Give it a little shake before use. Make a scent you love and you will look forward to using it! Half the work for you if you can get your daughter to clean her own residue (perhaps let her concoct the scent recipe!)

  3. Thanks for these great tips. It has been much easier for me to clean after watching your videos. And I would be grateful if you could help me out with my problem. My bathroom is small and I don’t have bathtub there. So most of the time the floor gets wet and dirty. Could you tell me an easy way to keep the floor of the bathroom clean and dry that wouldn’t take much time?

  4. Great work by Melissa Maker, thanks for sharing tips for cleaning our bathroom. It has really helped me a lot. Now my bathroom will be clean all the time.

  5. What can I put on my glass shower door to keep it from spotting. I use a squeegee after each shower but I’d like something more. I used to use a product created for windshields to help repel water when it was raining but they no longer make it. Any help would be appreciated!

    • Spray the doors (or the entire shower) with white vinegar. Some people don’t like the smell but I have found it really helps keep the hard water stains down.

    • I used Lemon Oil on my plexiglass doors in my shower and it works like a charm. Cleaning soap scum off a shower door is a tough, time-consuming job. Try using lemon oil furniture polish ( Old English lemon oil) as a barrier against the scummy buildup. The next time you clean the door, follow up by wiping it with furniture oil on a soft rag. Let the oil sit for two minutes and then polish off the excess with a dry cloth. Cuts and cleans through soap and hard water stains, plus the oil repels water up to 6 months.

    • Hey mrsidaho! I too love spot free shower doors, and the solution I found is to squeegee them followed by drying them with a microfiber cloth right after EVERY shower. I actually take this one step further and I also squeegee and wipe down the entire shower, walls, shelves, and floor, after each shower. It’s great! I have no water spots (we live with a well) and no soap scum. Our old shower had yuck in the non slip pattern on the floor and I could never get it out. Our new (white) shower stall is now 5 years old and sparkles like the day it was installed (after the construction dirt and dust was cleaned up!). Good luck!

  6. I have a bathroom with a window but no sunlight coming into it. . . . .Due to that reason (I believe) my bathroom stinks really really bad. Can you please suggest some tips by which I may get rid off the stinky smell?

    • There is a product call Orange TKO or TKO Orange. google it. a few drops down your drain or else where and no more stink..

  7. Suggestion: NOT a good idea to keep toothbrush on counter as it can absorb bad bathroom odors and also the microscopic spray of water coming from the toilet bowl when it is flushed. Of course, people should put the toilet bowl cover down when they flush but many people don’t do that. I am new to your site but I have enjoyed it so far,

  8. Every morning its quite a great way to have routine of cleaning somehow the bathroom before/after taking bath to have a fresh cleaning essence the entire day.

  9. How do you clean a wood cutting board effectively – especially after using it to cut fish or chicken and other meats?
