The trick with carpet stains is to bust them as soon as they happen so that they don’t have time to hang around and entrench themselves in your carpet fibres.  As soon as a stain happens, blot it up with a clean paper towel or cloth.  Whip up this simple stain pre-treater as you need it, hydrogen peroxide loses its effectiveness as it gets exposed to light (hence the brown bottle), so making a little bit up as needed is the best and most cost-effective way to go.

  • 2 tablespoons hydrogen peroxide
  • 1 tablespoon dish soap

Stir the solution together well, and apply to the stained area.  Leave it for a moment or so, and then gently work it in with your fingers.  Rinse the area with water, blot, and repeat until stains and residue are gone.

  1. I also recommend making a paste of water and baking soda, and using that as well. It works really well for stains, and would be good as another solution to try. Just rub it in, and vacuum it up when dry!

  2. This DIY carpet stain remover really worked!! I used it on an old spot on our carpet. I used a commercial carpet stain remover on it and it didn’t work, but this recipe worked. Thank you so much! The spot is completely gone!
