5 Secret Storage Spots in Your Home!

Storage space is a finite resource, especially when you live in a city where real estate is crazy expensive! So, it’s important that whatever space you do have, you are maximizing your storage solutions and using all the home organization tips out there. I have a few crafty storage solutions that you might not know about, including these five sneaky storage solutions!

Vertical Space

We’ll start things off with vertical space in cupboards. Oftentimes, there’s so much extra space between the bottom shelf and the next shelf. There’s an easy fix for this where you can essentially double how much space you have in your cupboard. All you need to do is grab a stacking shelf. How it works is that you pop it in your cupboard, put things underneath it, put things on top of it and you effectively double your shelf space.

Under The Bed

When it comes to home organization, your bed is actually a cavern of free storage space! Are there seasonal clothes that you are looking to store or items that you wear infrequently? You don’t want to clutter up your closet with these items. So why not put them under the bed? There are lots of under the bed storage container options. Please note: this doesn’t mean that you can ram everything under your bed willy-nilly. You have to be organized about it. Now, if you don’t want to get something that is hard-shelled, you can always pick up Ziploc Space Bags. These are great for seasonal storage like blankets and winter wear. They are very easy to use, stuff the item in, suck the air out with a vacuum, it’ll shrink and easily slip under the bed.

Behind The Door

The area behind your door is a brilliant spot to gain some extra storage space. You simply need one of these shoe organizers that hang behind the door. Basically, no one uses these anymore for actually storing shoes, but you definitely can if that’s what you need to store.  In fact, when I was at an overnight camp many years ago, we used to use these to store everything. There are so many different ideas of what you can actually store in it. All you have to do is hang it over the end of your door, find a creative use for it and start storing.

Hooks

Utility spaces are great for hooks. There are endless storage opportunities when you can hang various things. So often, though, you have to think about either ruining the paint or actually nailing hooks into the wall. There is a simple solution for this as lots of hooks these days are made with adhesives that won’t ruin paint or drywall. They also come in a variety of sizes and styles, so you can choose exactly what you need. They can also handle quite a bit of weight. Think of all the hooking opportunities.

Corners

Corners are rarely utilized, but there is no reason they shouldn’t be. Take something like a corner shower caddy, which can store all kinds of different products. There are lots of great corner storage solutions. A caddy would also be great for storing laundry products, tools, and accessories in your laundry room, where space is often short. You can also use it in other utility spaces like garages or even your pantry.

Where there’s space, there is a potential storage solution. I hope that some of these ideas have inspired you and helped you figure out new ways to store your stuff. I would love to know what is it that you’re struggling to store. Let me know in the comments down below.

  1. Thanks for sharing your ideas. I’m crazy about using various sized Lazy Susans. Those round platforms that spin around. There’s a large one in a cupboard which is above our fridge. It stores all my various cleaning products, fly spray, ant rid, rinse aid, wood polish etc. Just spin and select! That way everything is accessible and nothing gets lost in the back of a cupboard you need a ladder to look into! Great also for deep corner cabinets. I use one as a spice holder in the pantry, again on a corner. Spin and there’s the cinnamon. Have fun!
